Liu Zi Jue (Six Healing Sounds)

六字訣

A 1,500-year-old Qigong practice pairing six vocal sounds — Xu, He, Hu, Si, Chui, Xi — with gentle movement and extended exhalation. Easy to learn and ideal as a calming warm-up or wind-down.

Xu Sound · 噓字訣

The Xu sound soothes the Liver. Extend the palms outward with the gaze far ahead, releasing tension on a long, soft "Xu" exhale.

嘘字诀疏肝。双掌向外展开,目视远方,随绵长轻柔的“嘘”声呼气释放紧张。

  1. Stand naturally with feet shoulder-width apart · 自然站立,双脚与肩同宽
  2. Slowly raise both hands to chest level · 双手缓慢抬至胸前
  3. Extend the palms outward · 双掌向外展开
  4. Focus your gaze into the distance · 目视前方远处
  5. Slowly exhale while making the "Xu" sound · 发出"嘘"音缓慢呼气
  6. Lower the hands naturally · 双手自然回落

Breath · 呼吸 — Slow inhale. Long, soft "Xu" on the exhale.

He Sound · 呵字訣

The He sound calms the Heart. Push the palms forward as the chest gently opens, exhaling with a warm "He" tone.

呵字诀养心。双掌前推,胸腔徐徐打开,随温和的“呵”音呼气。

  1. Stand comfortably · 自然站立
  2. Hold both hands in front of the chest · 双手于胸前环抱
  3. Push the palms forward · 双掌向前推出
  4. Open the chest gently · 胸部自然打开
  5. Exhale with the "He" sound · 发出"呵"音呼气
  6. Slowly draw the hands back · 双手缓慢收回

Breath · 呼吸 — Inhale as you gather. Exhale "He" as you push.

Hu Sound · 呼字訣

The Hu sound harmonizes the Spleen and Stomach. Lift the palms from the lower abdomen, exhaling with a rounded "Hu" tone.

呼字诀和脾胃。双掌自小腹缓缓上托,随圆润的“呼”音呼气。

  1. Place both hands in front of the lower abdomen · 双手置于下腹前
  2. Lift both palms upward · 双掌缓慢上托
  3. Keep the body relaxed · 身体保持放松
  4. Exhale with the "Hu" sound · 发出"呼"音呼气
  5. Lower the hands slowly · 双手缓慢下降
  6. Return to starting position · 回归起始姿势

Breath · 呼吸 — Inhale as the palms rise. Exhale "Hu" as they fall.

Si Sound · 呬字訣

The Si sound clears the Lungs. Open the arms wide with palms turned outward, exhaling with a thin "Si" hiss.

呬字诀清肺。双臂展开,掌心外翻,随细长的“呬”音呼气。

  1. Place arms at the sides · 双手置于身体两侧
  2. Open the arms outward · 手臂向两侧打开
  3. Turn the palms outward · 手掌向外翻转
  4. Relax the shoulders · 肩部自然放松
  5. Exhale with the "Si" sound · 发出"呬"音呼气
  6. Return the arms to the sides · 双手回到身体两侧

Breath · 呼吸 — Inhale opening wide. Exhale "Si" with relaxed shoulders.

Chui Sound · 吹字訣

The Chui sound strengthens the Kidneys. Sink slightly with hands at the waist, exhaling with a blowing "Chui" sound.

吹字诀固肾。双手轻扶腰际,身体微微下沉,随“吹”音呼气。

  1. Place hands lightly at the waist · 双手轻放腰侧
  2. Slightly bend the knees · 微屈双膝
  3. Lower the body slightly · 身体轻微下沉
  4. Exhale with the "Chui" sound · 发出"吹"音呼气
  5. Slowly straighten the body · 身体缓慢伸直
  6. Return to standing posture · 回归自然站姿

Breath · 呼吸 — Inhale standing tall. Exhale "Chui" as you sink.

Xi Sound · 嘻字訣

The Xi sound regulates the Triple Burner. Raise the arms with palms up and the chest open, finishing the cycle with a light "Xi" exhale.

嘻字诀理三焦。双臂上举,掌心朝上,胸腔舒展,以轻快的“嘻”音收束整个循环。

  1. Raise both arms from the sides · 双手由身体两侧上举
  2. Turn the palms upward · 手掌朝上
  3. Open the chest naturally · 胸部自然展开
  4. Exhale with the "Xi" sound · 发出"嘻"音呼气
  5. Lower the arms slowly · 双手缓慢放下
  6. Finish and return to neutral position · 收势结束
